The Promoja Did It Poster
The Promoja Did It Poster
Our Balkan Legends collection takes classic Balkan masterpieces and gives them a playful, modern twist. In this edition, we’ve transformed Uroš Predić’s Kosovo Maiden with a touch of humor while still honoring its deep cultural significance.
Original Artwork: Kosovo Maiden (Kosovska Devojka)
Artist: Uroš Predić
Uroš Predić, one of Serbia’s most celebrated artists, created the Kosovo Maiden in 1919, capturing a powerful moment in Serbian history. The painting depicts a young woman searching a battlefield for her lost fiancé after the Battle of Kosovo in 1389. Her sorrowful expression and poised demeanor reflect the deep emotional and symbolic weight of the scene—an embodiment of the sacrifices made in the name of love and nation. This iconic work is a tribute to the strength and resilience of women in Serbian folklore, as well as the enduring memory of Kosovo’s historic significance in the Serbian national consciousness.
Balkanish Edition: Kosovo Maiden (Kosovska Devojka)
In this Balkanish Edition, we’ve added a bold twist with the phrase “The Promaja is Killing Him” painted in stark white across the image. The promaja is a playful yet serious belief in the Balkans that a cold draft can make you ill, often blamed for a wide range of ailments. It’s a running joke in many households—especially when the windows are left open in the winter. This cheeky line brings a light-hearted humor to Predić’s somber piece, blending traditional Serbian culture with the playful, modern spirit of the Balkans. It’s a fun, contemporary homage to the iconic Kosovo Maiden, capturing the heart of both history and humor.

Meet the Founders. Maria (Romanian) and Danica (Serbian) met in university and immediately bonded over the same thing: being from the Balkans and fiercely proud of it. They shared a longing to keep those traditions, humor, and identity alive in their everyday lives abroad.
After years of searching for a brand that truly reflected what it meant to live between two worlds and finding nothing that captured that feeling, they decided to create it themselves. That’s how Balkanish was born.
These aren't mass produced products, each item is thoughtfully designed by the founders themselves.
